Hosting an Ice Cream Social for Students for Life of Michigan
Students for Life of Michigan is a 501(c)3 organization that operates exclusively on the generous
donations of our supporters. One way in which we meet our fundraising goals is by having churches
hold ice cream socials for us.
How Does it Work?
All that is necessary to hold an ice cream social is a willing church and a willing planner:
1) The church must agree to let Students for Life of Michigan hold the event on their property (typically immediately after Mass) and allow the event to be advertised to the church body through any available
avenues (in the bulletin, on the church website, etc...).
2) A planner, usually a church member, must volunteer
to buy the ice cream, toppings, and plastic wear for the event. A staff member from Students
for Life of Michigan will work closely with the planner to answer questions,
facilitate planning, and assist in setup and teardown.
On the day of the event, a staff member from Students for Life of Michigan will help the volunteer planner set up. Ice cream (served by the volunteer
planner) will be available in a buffet style for a suggested
donation of
$5 per person or $20 per family. Donation
slips will be placed on the tables.
While families are enjoying their ice cream, a staff member from Students for Life of Michigan will explain the organization’s mission (a 5 minute talk) and allow the opportunity for any interested
attendees to support our mission through the donation slips on
the tables. Following the event, a staff member from Students
for Life of Michigan will help the volunteer planner teardown. All funds, including
the suggested donations
and the free offering, will be donated to Students for Life of michigan
Why an Ice Cream Social?
An ice cream social is a fun and easy way to draw in a congregation and allow them the opportunity to support the prolife movement.
This is the perfect opportunity for a prolife church to present the prolife message to their members in a safe environment where they can freely join in or decline the offer. The speech used by our staff members is loving, encouraging, and focuses on how our mission helps provide human dignity.
