MI Pro-Life News: Deadline Date Set for State-Wide Petition Drive

NO Taxes For Abortion Insurance - Please mail in petitions
Because of the hard work of prolife volunteers, a deadline date for submitting NO Taxes for Abortion Insurance petitions is set. The state-wide petition drive will end in September. More than 270,000 signatures have been received to date.

Petitions should be post-marked by Monday, September 30. Keep collecting signatures through September 30, but send in petitions immediately as they are completed. Do not hold completed petitions.

Preparing the petitions for the Michigan Secretary of State's office is a big job.

Phase One is done. Now we must complete Phase Two. We have reached the legal requirement of 258,088 signatures to initiate the Abortion Insurance Opt-Out legislation, but we must have a large cushion of extra signatures to ward off any potential challenge from pro-abortion organizations. Our work is not done.

Experts advise submitting an additional 20 percent over the required signatures to ensure validation. The reality is not every signature will be perfect. A 20 percent cushion allows for errors. In addition to preventing a challenge, additional signatures will send a strong message to our lawmakers, abortion is not health care and no citizen should be forced to pay for a procedure that destroys innocent human life.

Beginning in June and without fanfare, dedicated prolife volunteers circulated petitions at county fairs, churches, summer picnics and school events. People from all walks of life have participated in the opportunity to initiate Abortion Insurance Opt-Out legislation to keep our tax dollars and health insurance premiums from paying for abortion as part of health care. This is democracy in action and we are excited that every county in Michigan is represented in the petition drive. As we have learned in the past, by working together we can succeed.

Please remember petitions should be post-marked by Monday, September 30. Keep collecting signatures through September 30, but send in petitions immediately as they are completed.
